Tucumcari has a fair history of being either mentioned or used as a film location in more than a few westerns, movies, and TV shows in addition to Rawhide(1959–1965).
These have included most recently Hell or Highwater (2016), Bands of Enchantment (2021), and Next Exit (2022). Yet, in all that time Tucumcari has not had a film festival. Which was surprising to us as it might be to our readers and attendees.
Tucumcari Film Festival (formerly Tucumcari Rawhide Days Film Festival) will feature a variety of films that celebrate the west and southwest, as well as the culture that shaped Tucumcari. (April 28th - 29th). Among these select films will be professional and amateur works from international, national, and local New Mexico filmmakers and creators. All categories have awards attached to them.
While during Tucumcari Rawhide Days proper, (June 16th - 18th) we will screen the award winners of the film festival, and honorary and free screenings of Rawhide.
Categories include Western, Modern, Western, Spanish/Latino/Hispanic stories, Music Videos/Musical Performances, Short Historical Documentaries, New Mexico Student Works, Route 66, and Stories of the Southwest.
These like everything in the festival are subject to change as we are constantly evolving.
Exact venues and selected content for screenings are to be announced and are subject to change as we get closer to the event and our selection committee selects some rooting tooting good spectacles for you to watch.
